LAGOS, A PACESETTER IN PUBLIC FINANCE – COMMISSIONER

The Lagos State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Samuel Egube has declared that Lagos will continue to set the pace in reforms of the public finance sector, reiterating the commitment to achieving internationally-acceptable practices in Budget processes, preparation and implementation.

The Commissioner made the declaration while receiving the Enugu State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Dr. David Okelue Ugwunta and his team, who were on a working visit to understudy the State public finance sector, in his office at Alausa, Ikeja.

Egube said Lagos has put in place appropriate infrastructure to ensure transparency and prudence in its financial sector, adding that the visit by his Enugu State counterpart was a welcome development.

While giving an overview of the Ministry’s operations, the Commissioner noted that it has become imperative for every agency saddled with financial reforms to be up-to-date with global economic realities.

The Commissioner, therefore, assured Dr. Ugwunta and his team that the Lagos State government, through the Ministry, is ready to render all necessary support to the delegation.

In his remarks, the Enugu State Commissioner, Dr. David Okelue Ugwunta thanked his Lagos counterpart for the warm welcome, noting that the purpose of the visit was to “share experiences, discover and learn new approaches that will increase knowledge that pertains to budget and economic planning in Enugu State”.

He added that the visit was also to get firsthand knowledge and detailed information on how the budget process, monitoring, evaluation and procurement are done in Lagos State.

While stressing that all the knowledge acquired in Lagos will be implemented in Enugu, the Commissioner called for continued synergy between the two Ministries for short and long term benefits to both States.
